My Favorite Library: Goodman South Branch Library

Even before the renovation, when the Goodman Library was just another block in the strip mall, my family and I have gone there to do everything from participating in movie nights, to finding a quiet corner and reading.

Don't get me wrong; I love the remodel as much as the next guy. It has comfier chairs and a bigger book selection with something for everyone to read. The extra space has really made it feel more roomy.

I love to curl up in a chair next to the wall completely made out of glass with a good read and just get lost in my own thoughts. Sometimes I get so relaxed that I forget where I am, that is of course, until I glance out the windows and see all of the people hurrying around doing their daily business.

For a lot of my friends a stop at the Goodman Library is a daily affair due to it's proximity to the bus station and, lets face it, McDonald’s. It is likely that if I show up to the library I will see at least three or four friends of mine surfing the web on one of the many computers or reading in some nook or cranny.

The library also plays host to multiple separate groups and organizations, including one of our very own book clubs that is a part of our citywide network of book clubs. At this book club we read and discuss books hand picked by our editors. And one of our favorite librarians, Chris Wagner, always makes sure that we get a nice snack at all of our meetings.

The library is open Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 8:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The Goodman South Branch is located at 2222 South Park Street. For more information about the library go to www.madisonpubliclibrary.org/goodman-south or call 608-266-6395.

The library is the place to be. If you happen to be on Madison’s south side, stop by the Goodman South Branch Library and check out (pun intended) all that it has to offer. I’m sure you’ll love it just as much as I do.
