Ancient China had a history of successes and downfalls. There were many dynasties in Ancient China that contributed to the country’s modern history.
Zhou's rule lasted until 221 B.C. During that time in Ancient China, many wars were fought in Zhou’s kingdom. The war between the kingdoms lasted for over 250 years. After that, a dynasty named the Qin from the northwest took over the country. China was named after this dynasty.
In 221 B.C., Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of Unified China, rearranged the government and standardized weight, money, and measurements. He also began building the Great Wall of China across the northern border, keeping the Hsung Nu people out.
Shi Huangdi was smart, but was also a ruthless general and politician. He often burned books and killed scholars because their ideas did not align with his. Although Shi Huangdi had many achievements, in 206 B.C., the Qin dynasty was overthrown four years after Shi Huangdi’s death.
Ancient China was historically significant, its influence can still be seen in modern day culture and architecture across China.
