My Favorite Library: The E.D Locke Public Library Offers Books, Community

The E.D. Locke Public Library of McFarland has been my favorite library since it was built in 2005. This library houses numerous books, audio books, movies, and magazines. It also has many different features that make it a great place to read, study, and relax.

The library is nice both outside and in. On its outside, a small park accommodates children coming to the library, and the beautiful landscaping welcomes you inside. When you walk into the library one of the first things that catches your eyes is the jaw-dropping, high-ceiling entrance.

With extensive sections, this library is perfect for people of all ages. As a teen, I really enjoy the young adult section: Teen Central. It is situated next to a comfortable and relaxing seating area. The seating is perfect for reading a freshly picked book from the shelf or a magazine from the magazine rack.

In fact, the E.D. Locke Public Library is the perfect place for magazine lovers. In the back of the library, you can find a quiet reading room filled with many more magazines. It also has tables and chairs in the middle of the room, which is a great place to sit while you browse through magazines or enjoy the sun streaming through the huge windows that overlook Main Street. This room is my personal favorite for studying because of its quiet, peaceful atmosphere. There are also separate study rooms to use.

An additional feature of the library that makes it great is its kids' section. This section has a large selection of books for children of all ages, and it also includes many of the best kids’ movies, music, and audio books. It also offers computers for games and other items for children to play with, which makes a trip to the library much less stressful for parents or others coming with young ones. The adult section is extensive as well and has many comfortable places to sit and enjoy a good book.

The E.D. Locke Public Library is also my favorite because it looks out onto Main Street. Not only is it a beautiful street, but it also includes Spartan Pizza and the McFarland House Cafe, two great restaurants. The ice cream at the McFarland House is some of the best, and it is a delicious snack to enjoy after going to the library.

Although there are many reasons this library is my favorite, the number one reason is its involvement with the community. During the summer, the library has a reading program in which prizes are awarded for reading throughout the summer. In the spring, the library holds an art exhibit, where artwork from students in elementary, middle, and high school is displayed. There are many other events at the library that get the community involved, such as open mic night. The events at the library always offer a friendly atmosphere.

Come enjoy this welcoming library Monday through Thursday from 9:30a.m. to 8:00p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9:30a.m. to 5:30p.m., as well as Sunday from 12:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. The library is located at 5920 Milwaukee Street, McFarland. Stop by and experience all that this library has to offer!

Your article was so descriptive, Rebekah. As someone who also visits this library, I enjoyed reading this. – Melody , La Follette HS (2014-11-02 12:11)
