NASA’s Hubble Telescope Produces Awesome Images, Uncovers Galaxies

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is Hubble space telescope captures vivid pictures of different stars and galaxies never seen before. The Hubble rapidly orbits above our planet's atmosphere to view the universe more clearly than ground-based telescopes. It takes only 97 minutes for the Hubble to travel around the Earth.

Light pollution from cities does not actually interfere with the Hubble, which makes it easy for it to see objects in the night sky. The telescope has produced some of the most colorful images of the universe. It has uncovered around 10,000 galaxies across space.

Built in 1990 at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, the Hubble and cost about $6 billion. The telescope is approximately six feet tall and weighs about 600 pounds. It was named after an astronomer, Edwin Hubble, who proved that the universe was expanding and that fuzzy lights in the sky represented other galaxies. The Hubble played an important role in discovering the age of the universe, which is estimated to be approximately 13 to 14 billion years old.

This telescope has beamed hundreds of thousands of images back to Earth throughout its 24-year lifespan. The images are transmitted to Goddard, a space flight station in Greenbelt, Maryland, for research. An astronomer from any place in the world can request time to use the Hubble and share the pictures and other research results he or she finds with the scientific community.

Among all telescopes, the Hubble Space Telescope is certainly a one of a kind.
