When Animals Don’t Find Lover They Become Endangered

Whether you are a child or an adult, love is important for everyone - even animals. Unfortunately, not every animal has the opportunity to find love.

One such animal is Lonesome George. Lonesome George was the last of the Pinta Island tortoises from the Galapagos. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 100. He lived a long and solitary life, as he never mated, even though humans made several attempts to mate him with another tortoise. Other animals such as the Amur leopard, the mountain gorilla and the vaquita porpoise may suffer a similar fate.

The forests of Eastern Russia are home to the quick, clever and lonely Amur leopards. The population of this kind of leopard is on the decline. There are around 30 Amur leopards left in the wild. Their population has declined because of illegal fur poaching of their fur and human consumption of their food resources – a specific kind of deer.

The mountain gorilla also struggles with love. Human takeover of Mountain Gorillas’ pushes them to higher and harsher parts of the mountain. Because of the harsh conditions and the lack of territory, mountain gorillas are endangered. Many die out before they can find love.

Another lonesome animal, the vaquita porpoise, was dying out without mating, which effectively placed them on the list of endangered species. Because of their small size, they often get caught in fishermen’s nets along with other fish. Porpoises cannot stay in the packed nets that are underwater because similar to other mammals, they need air to survive. Currently, there are around 200 individual vaquita porpoises left.

Lonesome Gorge is an example of an animal that went extinct. The other three animals and many other species of animals and plants are endangered. International governing bodies have passed laws to protect these endangered species in attempts to save these animals.

That's really sad... I hope they adapt soon or the government does something big about it soon. – Mario Rea-Garcia , Madison (2016-06-28 18:56)
