MG&E Rates Frozen Until Early 2014

According to a recent article in the Wisconsin State Journal, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission voted unanimously to freeze MGE’s base rates for gas and electricity until January of next year.
“It is the first time that we’ve seen a rate freeze proposal in recent memory from MGE,” says Cindy Smith, the commission’s chief legal counsel.
“This isn’t the first freeze rate that the commission has examined,” Smith noted. Especially of late, in tough economic times, the utilities are being sensitive to it.”
Utility companies are able to freeze rates more easily now because natural gas has gone down in price. According to Smith, “with the decreased cost, it’s provided them with a little more leeway.”
