The Kohler Design Center in Kohler, WI is a three-level display of the company’s inventive, and stunning style. With Kohler’s attention to detail throughout the Center, it is no wonder that Kohler is a worldwide leader in plumbing projects.
On the main floor, or “Product Pavilion,” there is Kohler’s own “great wall of china.” This is a floor-to-ceiling display of plumbing fixtures in different shapes, styles, and colors. Around the glorious walls are the many products of Kohler including bathtubs, showers, toilets, lavatories, and faucets.
Just above the Product Pavilion is the “Water Deck.” It allows visitors to explore the many whirlpools that Kohler has to offer.
On the top level, or Mezzanine, there is a mixture of kitchens and bathrooms designed by many of the most well-respected designers in the interior design industry. One of these designers is Brian Gluckstein who created what he calls a cook’s dream kitchen, “Zen Loft”.
This room includes a marble island, which can be used as a working counter and a water source. The kitchen also has a chalkboard above the stove where a cook can write down notes or rest a cookbook.
Another great designer is Eric Cohler who created a 14-foot castle-like shower space called “Spa Tower.” Cohler says that it “fuses classicism with modernism.” His bathroom is one of the newer displays.
My personal favorite is Bunny William’s “Bath in Garden Folly.” She drew inspiration from the grand garden rooms of 18th century Europe. It has a claw-footed free-standing tub. The walls are all painstakingly painted by hand with small scenes of familes, making them a piece of art in themselves. Walking into this room makes you feel like you have stepped back in time-- to the 18th century.
The lower level of the Design Center contains a museum displaying Kohler’s extensive history. Through the models, pictures, readings, and old advertisements, one can learn all about Kohler’s humble beginnings, and how this company became the thriving business it is today.
Visitors can also see the first Kohler washtubs and how drastically their color schemes have changed throughout the years. From the light pinks and whites, to lime green and candyapple red in the 1960’s, to the present white, tan, and gray pallete.
Also displayed are ceramic and cast iron artworks done by the Kohler artists. If a visitor wants even more information, there is a film that goes through the history and origins of Kohler.
Overall, the Kohler Design Center shows Kohler’s inventive, and stunning style. Through the clever displays on the top level, the “great wall of china,” and the readings throughout the center, visitors can really get a feel for what the Kohler company is all about.
So the next time you are looking for an interesting place to go, visit Kohler Design Center in Kohler, Wisconsin where you will get a new perspective on bathrooms and kitchens. For more information about visiting hours and directions to the Design Center visit www.us.kohler.com.
